An external review of the independence and effectiveness of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) was announced in February 2016.
The review is being conducted by Sir Joseph Pilling and will be published in his name. The aim will be to complete the review within six months.
It will report on how IPSO is fulfilling its role as regulator of the UK newspaper and magazine industries and will examine the effectiveness of IPSO’s functions, and the extent to which it operates independently. In looking at this, the review will also test the degree to which IPSO has been faithful to its publicly stated principles and values.
Sir Joseph will be seeking to engage with a wide range of industry stakeholders, as well as members of the general public, and invites anyone with observations and views on the way IPSO is fulfilling its role as regulator to submit evidence for consideration.
